She was my clever little girl. I'm wearing her collar on my wrist now. The tattoo I am planning will be a good memorial piece. It's just me and Anya now.
Ugh! That is rough--- it's harder in some ways for them than for us since there aren't words to tell them what's up, though at least with Hecate passing on at home she can see her friend for the last time, as opposed to the one-way trip to the vet thing.
Molly passed at home as well - I was frantically calling all the mobile vets in town to find one who could come to end her suffering. It was brutal. Molly was in agony and crying and Hecate was meowing urgently at me and staying by her side. When the vet got here she had to give Molly a second injection because she was so dehydrated her circulation was sluggish and it wasn't acting fast enough.
Unlike Molly, who spent her final decline secluding herself, Hecate spent her last few weeks being more affectionate than usual, snuggling up to me, curling up in my lap, nestling on my hip when I lay down to sleep. She was herself to the very end, demanding a share of everything I ate and sticking her nose into everything. I fed her a morsel of potsticker wrapper with chopsticks at dinner last night. She went peacefully in her sleep, the best I could possibly wish for her. I miss her deeply, but her life was a good one.
I'm getting this as a memorial tattoo. It's a Night Vale thing, from the latest episode, which had a Crowning Moment of Awesome with the line "He is holding a cat!". And I was, indeed, holding her when I listened, and in many ways she was like the cat in question.
