I haven't posted here about headcovering. I started about a year and a half ago because of hair loss. It turned out to be really grounding for me, and a major confidence boost as I got better at it.
Thanks! I've got a good-sized scarf collection by now but the sari scarves are my absolute favorites. I haven't gotten a whole lot of reaction in public at all - the occasional compliment, but usually no real reaction. I have found myself noticing more when I see women in hijabs when I am out and about - I almost always see at least a couple even when I just make a quick trip to the store. But then, I am in a fairly large and diverse city, and I'm agoraphobic enough that I don't go out a lot anyway.
I know not everyone has been as fortunate as I have, though. I've heard some heartbreaking stories from other women who cover, and there was a thread a while back from a hijabi asking for tips on wrap styles that wouldn't give as much of a "hijab" impression at a casual glance (not that that's any guarantee of safety, I have heard of Orthodox women being attacked as well and at least one case of a woman covering for health reasons being harassed).
