But I got the memorial tattoo today. I was in serious distress, I needed it. And it just so happens that there is a tattoo studio right next to the building groups are held in. I started getting really really antsy, so when things had wound down to bingo and YouTube videos I let the facilitator know what the deal was and left, grabbed a hot dog from the 7-11 for the protein, and strolled into The Austin Tattoo Co. and chatted with a fellow called Cory. Thanks to the Droid, I was able to bring up the lyrics even though I hadn't brought the book with me. He fiddled around with fonts and font sizes a bit, and text layout, to try and get something that would fit well on my upper-inner arm .
It's easy to underestimate how much space a text tattoo takes. The font can't be too small, or it'll bleed to the point of illegibility. I took Cory's advice and got it in black instead of purple, since he said it would be less prone to bleeding. We went with Times New Roman italic, but right now it's so swollen I can't really tell the font.
It hurt a fuckload. The text goes far enough down that I felt vibrations in my elbow, and far enough up it that it's maybe an inch and a half from my armpit... coincidentally on the very sensitive skin on the edges of an old scar. And you know all those otugh guys who get armbands that only go like 3/4 around? Turns out they're not being utter lolariously cowardly. It HURTS LIKE BUGGERY. It was excruciatingly painful, wonderfully cathartically painful. And now the tattoo can carry some of the grief for me.

Wish I could get one.
But, I've got very sensitive skin.
Always wanted a rose tattoo.
Tattoos can last a long time and not infect the skin when you take very good care of them.
