I thought I had the recipe online but I can't seem to find it. It's one of those dishes I mostly make from memory so this is going to be a kind of inexact guideline sort of thing.
You'll need -
Beef, of course - I usually use about a pound of lean stew beef
a little flour
a little cooking oil
a couple of cups of beef broth, or water and beef bullion
chopped onion
sliced mushrooms (I've used canned at times, but I might use dried shiitake next time, those have been my cooking mushroom go-to lately)
canned tomato paste (you only need about a teaspoonful)
a dash or so of Worcestershire sauce
salt, pepper, and paprika to taste
heavy cream - about half a small carton?
sour cream - about half a cup?
wide noodles (to serve it over)
dredge the stew beef lightly in flour. Put the oil in a large cooking pot and use it to sear the beef. Add the chopped onions and saute them until they're translucent. Add the beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mushrooms, salt, pepper, and paprika and let it simmer for a while. When the beef starts to be cooked, add the heavy cream and sour cream and let it simmer and thicken. Taste it while it simmers and add more Worcestershire sauce/salt/pepper as needed to taste. While you're letting it simmer, cook the wide noodles (according to package directions) and serve it over the noodles.
