Yeah, this is me at 39. *hugs* to all my friends! So far it has been quiet. I got an Amazon GC from my dad and went on a spree of, remarkably, almost entirely books, the sole exception being the Genshiken box set. It's a bit worrying though, I am pretty sure some of my mail is going astray. BUT ANYWAY.
goddessgoddess swung by with cake and gifties and big birthday hugs, which was awesome. I treated myself to a sushi lunch, I got a Crazy Roll, spider roll, eel roll, and escolar nigiri from Sushi Japon. Their delivery guy showed up really quickly, too! And of course Hecate tried to mug me for some of it, especially the spider roll and eel roll (I did give her a pinch of eel, because I'm a softie and she's been very attentive lately). My mom called, and we're discussing the possibility of her visiting in spring, after SXSW. Evening plan is a Who watchalong with another Oct 6 baby (current plan is Scream of the Shalka and Ghost Light).
Other things that I have happened: Monday night,
goddessgoddess and T. brought me to see Jess Klein at Whip-In. I just about died when she gave me a shout-out and sang "Soda Water"! And K. had managed to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow and get my laptop working, so that is one big relief *clings to laptop*
And because it's too big too ignore: Steve Jobs. I've never owned a Mac, I don't have an iPhone or iPad, but there's no denying that Apple has been a serious game-changer. Before I ever had a computer of my own, I was playing Zork on the Apple IIs at my middle school. And as much as I dislike iTunes, I've owned a couple of iPods in my day (one was a gift, one was a promo item) and I credit them with making mp3 players mainstream. And the iPhone is getting more people using the internet as a casual tool without even thinking about it, which is a whole other essay that I don't have the focus or breadth of knowledge to write properly. So thank you, Mr. Jobs, for your part in making the future.
